DAO too low – what does it mean?
Blood DAO testing is a frequently used diagnostic test for histamine intolerance. However, it turns out that too low DAO is not a 100% confirmation of histamine intolerance, it can only be a clue to a final diagnosis. This is due to the fact that, according to many scientific studies, the level of DAO in the blood may not be related to the level of DAO in the intestines, and it is the deficiency of DAO in the intestines that causes the symptoms of histamine intolerance.
Diagnosis of histamine intolerance
So how do you find out if you have histamine intolerance? If you have at least 2 of the intolerance symptoms listed above, the diagnostic tests discussed in the webinar rule out other causes, and an antihistamine diet helps reduce symptoms, then you most likely suffer from histamine intolerance.
What diet for histamine intolerance?
In case of histamine intolerance, an antihistamine diet is used, i.e. one that limits the sources of:
histamine and other biogenic amines,
DAO enzyme inhibitors,
histamine triggers.
